Hi, I’m Helen.
I was born and raised near Manchester in the UK and I gained a master’s degree in engineering from Loughborough University. More recently, I completed an MBA in digital marketing and management and I also have an accounting certificate.

My work experience is varied. I started my career as a Design Engineer for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, before moving on to design domestic appliances. My job then took me to Germany, where I designed clutches for cars. After a few years, I decided to take a break, and I travelled around the world for a year, visiting 22 countries with a friend and a backpack.

Upon returning, in 2003, I moved to France, but I couldn’t speak French! That’s when I became an English teacher, working mostly with employed adults, for over 20 years.

My lessons usually start with some small talk, then move on to a more structured discussion, grammar or vocabulary exercise and end with students producing the language learnt. I always give homework;  it’s so important to consolidate learning, check your understanding and of course speed up progress.

Whilst in France I got married and had 2 children. I’m now back I the UK with my family and living near Lincoln. It’s very different to North West, where I grew up; it’s rural and there are great beaches. I love walking in the countryside or on the beach, swimming, trampolining and photography.
